Firefox is well aware of that and can smoothly run on Windows, macOS. Chrome, on the other hand, requires about twice the CPU resources, but in return uses GPU resources. With 7 CPU and 71 RAM consumption, Chrome is by far the biggest resource hog. Edge offloads the largest part of the workload to the GPU, but that comes at the prices of high GPU utilization. Chrome, Firefox, Vivaldi, Brave, etc all skip and stutter at 8K 60fps. There is no clear winner, rather we can observe different strategies being used by the four browsers’ developers. For me with the intel Mac Mini specs mentioned above, the Safari browser is the only browser that can play 8K 60fps smoothly on Youtube. The Brave Task Manager shows it’s the process labeled Browser that’s doing it. Chrome and Opera are both secure browsers, but the Google Safe Browsing database is much more comprehensive than Opera’s anti-malware and anti-phishing solutions. The browser windows all continue working normally, but the main Brave process starts consuming 134 CPU, the Mac starts running hot, and the battery starts draining quickly. I can play 8K 30fps videos smoothly in all browsers, but 8K 60fps skips in every browser except for Safari where it actually plays fine even though the YouTube stats is showing dropped frames, it still plays the video and audio without any noticed skips or stutters, my CPU usage is at about 14%, GPU shows the internal UHD Graphics 630 is at 38% use and the Vega 56 is at 10%. After some period of time using Brave, it seems like one of the threads of the main Brave process starts to spin and chew up CPU. I have an i7 Mac Mini, 32GB memory and a Vega 56 eGPU. I am experiencing a problem with Brave browser. I have only two tabs open, google and namecheap and Brave is using 99 CPU. Can anyone please confirm what the Youtube playback is like for exactly "8K 60fps" in Safari. I am experiencing a problem with Brave browser.
